Poem Read at Our Son & Daughter-in-Law's Wedding

It’s Obvious Meredith’s Someone Special

It’s obvious that Meredith’s someone special
You prayed for someone special, didn’t you, Brent?
And in God’s timing, and within His will,
He put her into your life, she is heaven sent.

I pray you keep God at the center
Of your lives together, seek Him in all,
For He will direct your path if you let Him,
And when you stumble, He won’t let you fall.

He loves it when we come to Him as a couple,
Sharing our joys, struggles and fears;
He loves to hear us raise our voices out loud,
And it’s a great, safe place, together, to shed tears.

When you pray together, hearing one another,
You get to know each other more personally;
It’s a type of vulnerability a marriage needs,
I can tell you this, for it’s worked for Dad and me.

It’s fun to watch the two of you,
Looking at each other longingly, often times;
I pray you’ll continue to revere each other realistically,
Not assuming the other knows what’s in the other’s mind!

No, I tell you, no one is a mind reader, for sure!
So if there is something you would like, or not like,
Just say it, allowing the other to do what you’d like,
Instead of moping, or shutting down, or “taking a hike.”

Yes, care for each other, as Christ modeled,
For He was the perfect Lamb, the Son of God;
He came to redeem us all in this fallen world,
And He wants you to walk together, as He did trod.
Brent, you are to be a Dad to Ethan,
This responsibility, do not take lightly;
You both must share in his discipline and direction,
Showing him that he’s loved by you, mightily.
May Your Marriage Be One That glorifies God,
And is an example to those in your midst;
You never know if they know Jesus themselves,
You may reach them for the kingdom’s, I promise.

Please forgive my sermon-of-sorts,
Yet this advice is what has helped Dad and I;
And marriage is hard work, I tell you the truth,
As hard as putting a camel through a needle’s eye!

So, Brent and Meredith, you’re both someone special,
At least that’s my opinion, and others agree!
Dad and I are so happy for the two of you!
May your wedding be what you hope it to be!

You Are Both Someone Special to Us, And To Each Other!
